When kids love the dentist, their hygiene is spot on!

I started seeing this patient about 1 month ago and from the first visit to today, she has made such improvement with her hygiene and eating habits at home, that even the mother is surprised!

She has a history of several stainless steal crowns on baby teeth due to zippy cup habits and lots of candy intake. On our first visit I went in detail on how sugar and acids destroy the enamel of teeth and she understood so well that she made a promise to drink lots of water instead of juice and that she would try not to sneak into the kitchen at nights to find the hidden candy bars.

We had her come in to do some fillings on baby teeth and sealants on permanent teeth to prevent food traps in grooves of molars. During the injection, she got a bit nervous but as soon as I explained that I only wanted to fix the damage she had caused her teeth due to high content of candy, she took full responsibility, sat still and opened wide.

Right before dismissal I saw her writing on the dry erase board we use to write down pending treatments before entering it into our paperless system.

It truly made me smile from within to see an 8 year old writing that she loved me even after I had entered a long skinny needle through her young and soft gums.

I adore what I do everyday; fear is what keeps human beings from evolving and tackling challenges in life. If I can help my patients little by little get more confident at the dental chair, my life’s purpose has been met. And if I can make them genuinely smile and love me a bit more after every cavity is fixed, then my heart is humbly fulfilled.
