Tooth whitening can dramatically transform your smile, but some people have concerns about sensitivity. Learn the facts about whether or not tooth whitening hurts.
If your teeth aren’t as white as you would prefer, it can keep you from showing off your smile and can impact your self-confidence. Maybe you’ve tried whitening toothpaste or even over-the-counter tooth whitening strips, only to find yourself disappointed with the results.
Fortunately, you can have the whiter smile you dream of, and you don’t even have to spend a long time trying to achieve it. Dr. Anette Betancor of Dente Complete Dentistry explains more about how you can quickly get a white smile that you’ll be proud to show off.
Your teeth can become discolored or stained due to several reasons. These include the following:
Dente can help you achieve the smile of your dreams with professional teeth whitening. Professional tooth whitening uses special whitening agents to lighten your teeth by up to 8 shades.
Dente uses the advanced Zoom!® laser to assist with the tooth whitening process. In just an hour in the office, the laser is used while the chemicals are applied to your teeth to help you achieve dramatic, dazzling results.
Following the in-office Zoom! whitening procedure, we also often send you home with a two-week kit to continue the whitening process. The take-home kit contains special trays designed to fit your mouth filled with more of the whitening chemicals. The dentist will give you instructions about how and when to use the at-home trays.
There aren’t many downsides to tooth whitening. You may have some mild tooth sensitivity for a couple of days following the Zoom! procedure, but this should be tolerable and short-lived.
There are some cases in which tooth whitening isn’t the right procedure for you. If you have extensive tooth decay, we’ll need to take care of that first. If the dentin inside your teeth is stained, external whitening won’t help much. Veneers are a much better solution for people with stained dentin.
Whitening your teeth should provide results that last for quite a while. However, if you notice that your teeth are becoming stained again, we can always do a touch-up with the Zoom! procedure.
In the meantime, you can help to make sure your whitening results last by taking the right steps to care for your teeth. You’ll want to avoid consuming foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as tea, coffee, and red wine. Make sure to quit smoking as well because tobacco is a significant contributor to tooth staining.
You’ll also want to make sure to practice good dental hygiene to both avoid stains and to prevent tooth decay. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing, and keeping up with dental checkups twice a year.
With some effort on your part and help from us, you can have the white smile that you’ve always wanted. Call the providers at Dente Complete Dentistry today or request an appointment online.
